The World Economic Forum's initiative aims to transition industrial clusters towards sustainability and innovation. This can be achieved by catalysing the decarbonization of the industrial cluster through convening and supporting existing, co-located facilities in significant emissions reduction.
With industry accountable for 30% of global CO2 emissions, industrial clusters play a crucial role in accelerating the energy transition. Serving as vital hubs for technology scale-up, risk-sharing and resource optimization, they are pivotal in aggregating and optimizing energy demand.
This report highlights the experiences and perspectives of 20 industrial clusters in the World Economic Forum's Transitioning Industrial Clusters initiative.
The Transitioning Industrial Clusters initiative is an effort to improve cooperation and common vision among co-located companies and governments to drive economic growth, employment, and the energy transition.
The industrial clusters in the ARRRA region are connected by a network of pipelines that crosses national borders. The pipelines transport often fossil-based feedstocks and energy carriers, including naphtha, liquid hydrocarbon, ethylene, propylene, fuel oil and crude oil, but also hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen.
Despite unique geographical, infrastructure, policy and sectoral challenges, these clusters have developed comprehensive strategies to reach net zero while attaining their full economic and employment potential. TDA welcomes the Ministerial statement outlining ''stronger industry leadership and engagement'' to deliver a VET system ''that can respond rapidly to changes in Australia''s economy and build a resilient workforce that delivers on industry''s needs.''
