Policies and ethics China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CSG) was established in 2002. CSG invests, constructs, and operates power networks in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan provinces and regions.
Decarbonization of the Southern Power Grid in China is feasible by 2060 but requires converting a large cropland area to support solar and wind energy; expansion of hydropower will impact the transboundary rivers according to a power system optimization model set up for 2020–2060.
In Southwest China, the China Southern Power Grid company operates the power grid, investment, construction, and dispatching, and the provincial gas companies are responsible for the operation and dispatching of the gas distribution network.
Therefore, in Southwest China, the combination of distributed energy with traditional power, energy conversion devices, and flexible loads to form MEGs, and the joint operation with the active DN effectively satisfies the overall objectives of power grid operation.
The rapid growth of distributed photovoltaic and wind power installed capacity in Southwest China has reduced the operation safety margin of the power grid. Power grid dispatchers face the dilemma of ensuring security of the power grid and the output curtailment of renewable energy.
As the main body of the national energy supply, power grid corporations in China are facing increased pressures. One is that the inertia of the power grid is greatly weakened because of the increasing proportion of wind power and installed photovoltaic capacity. The transient and steady stability of the power grid is significantly reduced.
